J. Lohr, Merlot 2013 – Nappa Valley, California
So here I was on a Wednesday evening playing on my Playstation4 with some of my friends and I felt like having a wine since, in my own way, I was having a goodtime with my buddies. Now the question became which wine did I want to have? Did I want to stick with something I knew or try something new. Well I was feeling like having a bit of an exploration into some of the new releases from last month (March). Yes I Know it is now May. I was so familiar with the J. Lohr Cabernet Sauvignon and when I saw the new release in the LCBO for their Merlot I jumped at the chance to buy it and let me tell you this wine did not disappoint the J. Lohr name. I opened the bottle and poured out half a glass, gave it a swirl, brought it to my nose and right off the bat aromas of plum, vanilla, raspberry, and mocha jumped out of the glass. On the palette the wine expresses fresh fruit and chocolate with an underlying wood smoke. Full body, off dry, with smooth soft tannins, balanced with a touch of sweetness making this wine nice a smooth. After a couple glasses I started to notice I wasn’t playing my game as well and my friends had to pick up my slack. whoops. All in All awesome wine great night.
